Well, what can I say?! It’s the evening of 26th March (Mother’s Day, if you’d forgotten…) and I’m writing this feeling so relaxed and chilled that I’m finding it hard to concentrate…
“Why?” you may ask… Well, because this morning my thoughtful husband Diarmuid treated me and my mother-in-law Tess to a pamper session at Seclusion Spa in Ardfarna, just outside Bundoran. We were greeted with huge welcome smiles and glasses of Prosecco by owner Nicola and her employee Karen; such a lovely way to start a Sunday morning! Today was Nicola’s first day open and I couldn’t fault her and Karen on anything.
The smell of burning logs in the fire pit filled the air, along with beautiful scented candles. I really felt like I’d been taken away from busy Bundoran, to a peaceful and beautiful rural area. Once we had been shown around the spa, which includes a barrel sauna, outdoor Jacuzzi, 2 treatment rooms, a vintage high tea lounge and a welcome reception room, it was time to choose our treatments.
We were treated to the Mother’s Day package which included two half-hour treatments. The list we were given to choose from made it really hard to pick, as they all sounded fantastic. In the end, I picked a full back massage and Shellac nail treatment. Tess went for an Indian head massage and back massage. If that wasn’t enough, we were then treated to a seaweed bath and full use of the sauna and outdoor Jacuzzi. I wouldn’t be a fan of Jacuzzis now, but Oh My Lord, this one is something else! The jets are so powerful! And the view… well that just makes it all the more special. The barrel sauna is the cutest thing I have ever seen and believe me, the heat is unreal. It really opens those pores and relaxes those muscles.
My treatments were amazing. Sometimes when you go to these big spas you just feel like you’re on a conveyer belt, but not here. Nicola took her time and got every knot, ache and pain out. I’ve never felt as relaxed during a massage as I did today. The whole room was warm and welcoming. Nicola was so professional and calming to be around. At one point I had to ask her to tell me to get up, because I wasn’t moving at all! When you book in I would really recommend the full body massage. I suffer from back and hip pain, but even now, writing this a few hours later, I still feel like I’m lying on that massage bed.
After all the pampering, we were shown into the Vintage Tea Room where we were greeted with mini sandwiches, scones, cakes, chocolate fondue with marshmallows, strawberries, a bottle of Prosecco, tea and my favourite – COFFEE!!! The weather was fantastic, so we enjoyed our drinks out on the fire pit decking. Even though the sun was shining, Nicola brought out these huge big fleece blankets to wrap around ourselves. I’m sold!! Blankets and coffee – that really is the way to my heart. Maybe I should rename my blog that! ‘Blankets and Coffee!’
Anyway, back to today 🙂 Seclusion Spa also offers evening packages, so to be able to experience all this beauty at night is even more magical; no lights around, just the glow from the fire and the twinkling of the stars… I can sense an evening out there with the husband coming soon…
Seclusion Spa is open now full-time, 7 days a week (by appointment only). It’s perfect for a treat for yourself, the girls, the wife, husband, boyfriend… I’m sure even the cat and dog would enjoy it if they came along! The spa can take groups of up to 8 people as well; so girls, get everyone together and head up for the day, get pampered and have great craic at the same time, in a beautiful location.
I really could keep writing about how amazing today was. I really enjoyed every second of it, and I’m already planning my return very soon. I wish Nicola and all her staff the very best with the new venture. I have no doubt she is going to smash it and do fantastically.
